ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis Elects New Board Members, Adds New Staff

As part of ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis’ continued growth, ABCD is pleased to announce the election of three new Board members and the addition of new staff to its team.

Newly elected to the Board of Directors for terms of three years each are: Linda Hansen of Franklin, Wisconsin, a Partner in the Intellectual Property practice at Foley & Lardner LLP; Pamela Henson of Delafield, Wisconsin, Sr. VP Advertising, Marketing & Digital Sales, Journal Communications and; Kathy LaTour of Dallas, Texas, Editor-at-Large for CURE Today magazine and author of The Breast Cancer Companion.

In addition, ABCD recently added three new staff to its professional team. Joining ABCD are Cynthia Hooker, Micki Huston and Maureen Tobin. Ms. Hooker, a 24+ year veteran of Northwestern Mutual is ABCD’s new Helpline Manager; Ms. Huston, a former Helpline Manager for the now closed Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, is ABCD’s new Mentor Services Manager and, Ms. Tobin, most recently of Johnson Controls and United Migrant Opportunity Services has joined ABCD as Program Specialist.

Founded in 1999 by Emmy Award-winning journalist, Melodie Wilson, ABCD provides free, personalized information and one-to-one support to people affected by breast cancer – patients, families and friends. ABCD’s continuum of one-to-one support is provided by volunteer mentors who are trained and professionally supported breast cancer survivors. Free services include immediate support from Helpline Mentors, connection to personalized resources from Resource Mentors and, ABCD’s signature service, ongoing customized support from Match Mentors.

ABCD is in the midst of dramatic expansion and has increased one-to-one support services more than 100% during 2013 as compared to 2012. This expansion is part of a multi-year strategic plan to transform the expectations for breast cancer support.
