A Unique Health Solution for Canada’s Rising Obesity Epidemic: TrekDesk Treadmill Desk
Date:9/11/2013

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) September 11, 2013

TrekDesk Treadmill Desk, the first affordable treadmill desk offered to employees in the United States, helped foster a re-evaluation of sedentary offices while spreading a health benefits message of walking while working. Due to worldwide attention to the health dangers of sitting TrekDesks have been shipped to customers globally to countries as far as Japan, Norway, Saudi Arabia and Chile. Customers from Canada however have been the largest purchasers of the TrekDesk outside of the United States. Due to this demand TrekDesk Treadmill Desk has partnered with Amazon.com Canada offering direct shipping within Canada.

“America’s obesity epidemic has received a lot of worldwide attention,” states Steve Bordley, CEO of TrekDesk Treadmill Desk, “and rightfully so, since for the last decade we led the world in obesity trends. However America is no longer the fattest nation having recently relinquished the title to Mexico and a number of Middle Eastern nations. Obesity and inactivity now challenges every developed nation in the world, including China, which comes as a surprise to many.”

According to the World Health Organization obesity has doubled worldwide in the past 30 years. In 2008 1.4 billion adults were classified as obese and obesity was the 5th leading cause of death globally. The general consensus among researchers is that the rise in obesity is commensurate with the rise in sedentary behaviors and poor western diets.

Adult obesity rates in Canada have reached an all time high according to researchers from the University of British Colombia. Though obesity rates in Canada vary among regions however they are very similar to that found in the United States.
