7th Annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala Announces 2009 Honorees Tommy Mottola & Thalia

MIAMI, April 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 7th annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the InterContinental Miami Hotel benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R), one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers. This year's event will honor Tommy Mottola and his wife, Latin superstar, Thalia, for their generous support of children in need and contributions to the entertainment industry.

"We are both thrilled to be honored by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Tommy and I are proud to be part of such a marvelous mission," said Thalia. "We have always been committed to helping children everywhere. And there's no place in the world like St. Jude when it comes to giving kids hope."

"Speaking as a father as well as a humanitarian, there is a very special place in my heart for children. So, I am thrilled to be part of such a marvelous mission," said Tommy Mottola.

Model and television personality Daisy Fuentes will serve as hostess for the gala welcoming Latin celebrities from the television and music industries who will rub elbows with more than 500 guests. The evening's theme "Running Wild for Hope" also will include live performances by some of today's hottest Latin chart-toppers and a live auction.

Last year's FedEx/St. Jude gala honored Emilio and Gloria Estefan and raised funds in support of the groundbreaking research and lifesaving care provided by St. Jude for children from across the country and around the world. Events like this help to support life-saving initiatives such as the St. Jude International Outreach Program, which has dramatically increased the survival rates for children with cancer around the world over the past three decades. This program has partnered with clinics in more than 15 countries including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Honduras, Chile and Brazil.

"FedEx is very proud to continue supporting St. Jude and its ongoing mission to find cures for thousands of children suffering from cancer. We are honored to have the Mottolas join us in continuing the mission of St. Jude and the fight against childhood cancer and other terrible diseases," said Julio C. Barrionuevo, Vice President of Finance, Planning and Engineering for Federal Express, Latin America & Caribbean and Chair of the 2009 FedEx/St. Jude Gala. FedEx has been the title sponsor of the Angel & Stars Gala since its inception in 2002.

"Our St. Jude family congratulates Tommy Mottola and Thalia on this special recognition and are thrilled to have them be part of this event, which brings together the Hispanic community in honor of our children," David L. McKee, interim CEO and chief operating officer of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude.
