5th Anniversary Illinois Lions Clubs 'Walk for Sight'
Date:4/27/2009

CHICAGO, April 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Commemorating the 5th Anniversary of the Lions Walk for Sight, Illinois Lions will be sponsoring three separate events: a Walk/Run, Saturday, May 30th at the Lakewood Forest Preserves, starting with a 5K Run at 10 a.m. and Walk at 4:30 p.m.; Sunday, June 7th, a 3 mile Walk at the Danada Equestrian Center, Naperville, starting at 4:30 p.m.; and finally, Sunday, July 14th, a Walk at Southern Illinois University (SIU), Edwardsville Campus, starting at 4:30 p.m. Van Stone, Foundation Director, is asking anyone interested in participating in the Walks to contact DiAnne Ortega of the Foundation Office at 800-955-5466 for more information.

The Walks are the opportunity for community organizations to have up to 40% of the total amount of donations collected by them, returned for their humanitarian activities. Walkers, groups and community organizations need to register through their local Lions, Lioness and Leo clubs, or directly with the Lions of Illinois Foundation Office. Adult registration is $20.00 but will be waived with $100.00 or more in donations, and registrants will receive a special "Walk for Sight" T-Shirt. Students and youth under 18 are free but are encouraged to collect at least $50.00 in donations to receive the special Walk T-Shirt. All registration forms, with donation money collected, must be turned in prior to each event. Each locale will have special events geared to the whole family - so come and enjoy the day and "Walk for Sight."

"Each year, participation by Lions and local organizations does increase," said Director Stone, and with this being the 5th Anniversary of the Walks, he is looking forward to a large turnout. To walk for a great cause go to www.helpthelions.org or for more information and to find your local lions club, contact the Foundation Office at 800-955-5466.
