United Way of Greater Los Angeles Holds Second Annual HomeWalk
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: HomeWalk is a 5K family walk to end the growing issue
of homelessness in LA County. Part of United Way's
year-round campaign to end homelessness, last year's
HomeWalk raised $500,000. This directly funded eleven
local nonprofits and helped get over 2,300 homeless
people off the streets and into housing.
WHY: Los Angeles is the Homeless Capital of America
-- 73,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles County
-- Only 17 percent of the homeless population in L.A.
County have shelter
-- 40 percent of the homeless population are women and
children
WHO: Thousands of L.A. residents walking to help end
homelessness, including:
