3M™ Gripping Material Technology – Giving Golfers a Competitive Edge
Date:6/30/2012

St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) June 30, 2012

•    Improves performance even in wet and humid conditions

  •     Research measures increases in friction of up to 80% over leading leather and synthetic glove materials
  •     Noticeable improvements in club control and ball-striking performance with less force

3M announces an innovative technology in the world of golf. Golf gloves made with 3M gripping material and a golf club wrap—3M gripping material tape—are designed to enhance the performance of both amateur and professional golfers alike.

One critical success factor in golf is player control of the position of the clubface at the point of impact with the ball. 3M gripping material is designed for better hold and control with minimum effort on the part of the golfer. This translates into better club control and improved ball-striking performance with less force and fatigue, even in wet or humid conditions.

About The Technology:

3M gripping material is based on 3M’s proprietary micro-replication technology and consists of thousands of micro fingers that work together to enhance grip and traction.

3M gripping material may be used alone, as in the golf gloves made with 3M gripping material, or as part of a two-part mated system using the gloves and wrapping the club grip with 3M gripping material tape for maximum effect. Both applications allow for an enhanced grip with less force contributing to better club control, smoother swings and increased swing speeds that improve overall performance and driving distance.

Research Shows Improvements in Friction and Enhanced Traction

3M conducted research on the effects of gloves and grips on golfer performance and discovered striking results.
In one study*, golf gloves made with 3M gripping material demonstrated substantial performance improvements over leading leather and synthetic glove materials. Increases in friction of up to 80% in wet conditions were measured. In dry conditions, gloves with 3M gripping material were found to provide up to 140% higher friction than ordinary leather or synthetic gloves.
A second study* at the University of Wisconsin found that 3M gripping material significantly reduces grip force, enhances grip strength and reduces fatigue, particularly in slippery conditions.

“We are reinventing and revolutionizing the way golfers get a grip on their clubs in a game they love with golf gloves made with 3M gripping material,” said Tanya Richert, 3M gripping material business leader

Tanya added, “Another performance factor that golfers will appreciate is that gloves and golf wraps made with 3M gripping material maintain their gripping power and properties in the rain or when dampened by perspiration, unlike typical leather golf gloves and wraps that tend to be unpredictable in wet conditions. This assures golfers that they can achieve enhanced traction and grip effortlessly in most any condition they’ll find on the course.”

Golf gloves made with 3M gripping material are available in both men’s and women’s adult sizes of small, medium, large and extra large (men’s only), both right—and left—handed. 3M gripping material tape comes in a variety of widths and roll lengths. Other Applications
3M gripping material is reinventing gripping in numerous other applications in sports, work and home, where people are looking for enhanced traction, firm hold, reduced slippage and a secure grip on any tool or object. It performs well even in wet, humid or oily conditions and across a broad temperature range, indoors and outdoors. 3M is also working closely with top brands and companies to incorporate this technology into their unique glove designs where grip is important.

Available For Purchase Online
