New Brain Fitness Program Offered to Local Seniors

SAN FRANCISCO, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Bay Area seniors soon will have the opportunity to exercise their brains through the Brain Fitness program, available at 30th Street Senior Center through a partnership with San Francisco-based Posit Science. The Brain Fitness Program improves the speed and accuracy of mental processing, memory and other cognitive functions, with participants reporting they feel more confident, have better memory and are more focused.

Seniors can participate in two 14-week courses, "Brain Fitness" and "Insight" when 30th Street Senior Center's computer lab opens June 12. Brain Fitness was developed by Posit Science, a local company whose brain health programs have been proven effective in numerous studies and in more than 30 published journal articles.

At the helm is Dr. Michael Merzenich, Posit Science's cofounder and Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Merzenich is one of the world's foremost researchers in the field of brain plasticity, which studies the phenomenon of the brain's ability to rewire and heal itself given the proper training. He is Professor Emeritus at UCSF where he did much of his work in this field.
