21st Century Oncology to Advance Cancer Research with University Partnership
Date:9/4/2013

ncology centers, paired with the expertise of our Yale team, will enhance the ability to generate new insights about the outcomes of radiation therapy that are most relevant to both clinicians and patients. For example, a more thorough understanding of the quality of life associated with different radiation therapies would drastically improve the patient experience.”

James Yu, M.D., Assistant Professor of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale, agrees, saying “The collaboration between 21st Century Oncology and Yale has the potential to impact care and change practice almost immediately. We will be able to gain insights with a focus on specific radiation therapy outcomes in a manner that will take into account the most up-to-date techniques and patterns of care.”

The Yale-21st Century Oncology Partnership will help establish a model for collaboration between the academic community and large practice networks, one that ensures scientific rigor, fosters independent research and above all, optimizes patient care.

This partnership will enhance the capacity and infrastructure for patient centered outcomes research at both 21st Century Oncology and Yale School of Medicine. The new partnership will add momentum to the radiation oncology community’s ability to generate new knowledge, disseminate models of evidence-based clinical care and deliver safe and effective cancer therapy.

“We look forward to working with Yale School of Medicine as we strive to develop outcomes based radiation therapy treatment protocols for cancer together,” says Timothy Shafman, M.D., Medical Director of 21st Century Oncology’s New England region.
