2017 Urgent Care Convention & Expo Focuses on Changing Patient Needs and Technology Trends
Date:4/28/2017

From April 30 to May 3, the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) and College of Urgent Care Medicine will host industry leaders for the annual spring Convention & Expo, called Momentum 2017. Momentum 2017 workshops, sessions and speakers will help those in the industry adapt to the issues currently affecting urgent care and on-demand healthcare.

“Momentum 2017 will feature urgent care’s top offerings of educational opportunities on both clinical and management issues,” said Sean McNeeley, M.D., chair of the UCAOA Education Committee. “A number of very timely sessions will help members address some of the ‘hot topics’ in the industry, including our rapidly changing healthcare environment and dynamic payment structures, and the evolving demands and needs of patients.”

Some of the trends addressed during the convention will include:

Measuring Outcomes and Determining Value
Presenters and sessions at Momentum 2017 will focus heavily on the most pressing issues and trends in healthcare, including how to navigate evolving payment structures and uncertainty. As the industry continues moving toward value-based payment structures, a variety of sessions will offer guidance on the right processes to capture needed data and move into the next frontier. Sessions will address dealing with high-deductible health plans, managing value-based reimbursement and optimizing utilization.

Understanding Today’s Consumer
A number of sessions will help urgent care providers understand how patient needs and behavior are evolving, as consumers take a higher interest in their healthcare monitoring and management. This will help urgent care thrive in a more competitive marketplace.

“In the past decade, there has been an explosion of affordable, convenient healthcare options – including urgent care, telemedicine, retail clinics and on-site work clinics – that provide on-demand services for a fraction of the price of an ER visit,” said Dr. McNeeley. “Momentum 2017 will help operators and their staff continue to set their practices apart and build awareness among patients who are confused in the increasingly crowded marketplace.”

Emerging Technologies
Technology is driving change in the industry – both in practice management and consumer understanding. Momentum 2017 will highlight the ways technology can be maximized to improve center efficiency, patient engagement and overall population health.

Momentum 2017 will feature keynote speaker Kevin Lacz, former Navy SEAL sniper, and general session speakers Bill G. Felkey, professor emeritus of healthcare informatics at Auburn University, and Tom Charland, CEO & founder of Merchant Medicine. The Convention & Expo will be held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, and will be attended by physicians, advanced practice clinicians, business professionals, UCAOA leadership and industry representatives from across the country.
