The remaining inventory at Classe Wines offers an opportunity for anyone who has a taste for Burgundy White wine to add an excellent vintage to their collection at an attractive price.
2000 Domaine Barat Chablis Premier Cru "Les Fourneaux" is a high-quality Chardonnay from Burgundy with a taste that includes hints of ripe fruit such as pears and apricots. It also has notes of citrus along with a mineral texture common among wines produced in this area. The mineral texture is combined with an acidity that results in a wine that is both delicate while also structured. It has a character of both green apple and lemon, and is a good example of the 2010 vintage from Burgundy. It can be paired well with seafood, cheese, and Mediterranean herbal chicken dishes.
The high quality of this Burgundy White wine reflects the skill of the winemakers as well as the area where it is produced. The Domaine Barat winery is currently under fifth generation family ownership, and is led by Ludovic Barat, who took over upon his father Michel's retirement in 2003. It is located in the heart of northwestern Burgundy in Milly, a village located in the area that produces Chablis wine, of which this is a fine example. The Domaine Barat winery's vintage consists entirely of Chardonnay grapes. The wine is produced using 45 year old vines that are grown with methods that meet organic and biodynamic standards. The vines are weeded manually, and no chemical fertilizers are used. It is grown in soil that contains minerals that are a legacy of the time when the area was underwater thousands of years ago.
This excellent Burgundy Chardonnay is available from Classe Wines in a limited quantity. The price per bottle is $49.99. Half cases, which have six bottles are available for $293. 94, while cases are available for $581.88. This wine can be ordered by visiting ClasseWines.com or by calling 1-800-793-9141.
