20 Nursing Students Awarded 2013 APNA Board of Directors Student Scholarships by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association

Falls Church, VA (PRWEB) September 18, 2013

The American Psychiatric Nurses Association is pleased to announce the inaugural class of the APNA Board of Directors Student Scholars. This scholarship program, established by the APNA Board of Directors, honors graduate and undergraduate nursing students who have demonstrated a commitment to psychiatric mental health nursing. The program seeks to encourage these students’ professional growth and aims to develop young talent within the PMH nursing workforce.

Applications for the scholarship, submitted by nursing students from across the country, underwent rigorous review by the APNA Awards & Recognition Committee, a group of psych nurse professionals. The 20 selected recipients will receive registration, travel and lodging expenses to attend the APNA 27th Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas, October 9-12, 2013. The recipients also receive a one year complimentary membership in the APNA and, in keeping with APNA President Beth Phoenix’s presidential focus on leadership development, opportunities for mentorships and participation in APNA programs. “It is exciting to be able to offer some of psychiatric mental health nursing’s best and brightest students this opportunity,” says Phoenix. “APNA looks forward to fostering their professional growth and engaging them in APNA activities that help to lead the way in advancing mental health.”

At the APNA Annual Conference, scholarship recipients will network with psychiatric mental health nurses from all levels and areas of practice while experiencing interactive panels, discussions, and presentations led by prestigious leaders in the field. Similarly, APNA membership will provide them with an introduction to communication and mentoring opportunities with experts in the field through APNA’s online networking community and through participation in APNA’s councils and committees. As members, the Scholars will also have access to a wealth of resources in psychiatric mental health nursing professional development and continuing education.
