SAVAGE, Minn., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent press release incorrectly attributed findings from an Evercare/National Alliance for Caregiving Study on the out-of-pocket expenses of family caregivers. Today, SarahCare issued the following statement to correct the record:
A recent press release issued by SarahCare corporate did not attribute
data about the financial cost of caregiving taken from the "Evercare(R)/NAC
Study of Caregivers -- What They Spend, What They Sacrifice." The data
itself was correct:
-- Caregivers are spending on average $5,531 a year caring for a loved one
over the age of 50.
-- For half of people caring for a loved one age 50 or over (51 percent)
this represents on average more than 10 percent of their annual income.
-- Caregivers are using their savings, cutting back on their own health
care spending, and reducing the savings for their children's future.
-- 37 percent of caregivers had quit their jobs or reduced their hours to
provide care for their loved one.
