The song never actually calls for an end to the use of crude oil but clearly takes the position that it is time to develop alternative energy sources that co-exist with nature in a more compatible way than oil based fuels have. The issue at hand on the Gulf coast beaches is addressed in the opening lines of the chorus which states, “We've got balls on the beach made of tar.”

Robin And The Giant drive home the most important point in the song when they sing, “We've got choices, alternatives for our cars,” and then asks, “So what are we waitin' for? We've done greater things before. It's a David and Goliath kind of call.”
