Tympanometry
Definition:
Tympanometry is a test used to detect disorders of the middle air. Air pressure in the ear canal is varied to test the condition and mobility (movement) of the ear drum (tympanic membrane).

Tympanometry can also be used to see whether an ear tube is open, to check the eardrum for perforation, or to check for fluid behind the eardrum.

A test called tympanometry, which measures air pressure in the middle ear, also may be performed to check for accumulation of fluid or pus. Usually, a course of appropriate antibiotics will clear the infection.
