Synovial fluid analysis
Definition:
Synovial fluid analysis is a battery of tests performed on synovial (joint) fluid to help diagnose and treat joint-related abnormalities.
Full article >>>

Synovial fluid circulates throughout your knee and passes in and out of various tissue pouches (bursae) throughout your knee. A valve-like system exists between your knee joint and the bursa on the back of your knee (popliteal bursa).

This synovial fluid is also found in the covering of the tendons, those cords that connect the muscles to the bones.

Each of the bony joints in the hands and wrist has a soft tissue lining that produces a lubricating synovial fluid. The tendons that move the fingers, hand and wrist slide back and forth over the wrist structures.

Osteoarthritis affects movable synovial joints. In these joints, the ends of the bones are covered with cartilage, a durable substance that allows the bones to glide over each other with minimal friction and absorbs force applied to the joints.

ARTHRITIS DEFORMANS - A systemic disease, seen more commonly in women which affects connective tissue, particularly the synovial tissue within joints.
Full article >>>

The various types of arthritis affect the synovial (movable) joints, which are the fingers, toes, wrists, elbows, hips, and knees. There are also joints between the bones of the spine.

Each sac contains a small amount of synovial fluid, a clear liquid that acts as a lubricant. Inflammation causes pain on movement.

Normally only a small amount of joint fluid (also called synovial fluid) is found in a joint. Joint fluid acts as a lubricant for the joint and cushions joint structures. See an illustration of the joint.

As a model, I use synovial fibroblast, cells that are highly sensitive to cell shape changes and respond by inducing the expression of extracellular metalloproteases.

A fibrous membrane called the joint capsule, lined with a smoother layer called the synovium, encases the joint architecture. The joint capsule contains the synovial fluid produced by the synovium.
Full article >>>

Within a joint, ligaments attach bones to other bones, tendons attach muscles to bones, cartilage lines and helps protect the ends of bones, and a special fluid (synovial fluid) cushions and lubricates the structures.
Full article >>>

The lining of the joint, the synovium, becomes inflamed. It reacts by producing extra synovial fluid, resulting in a swollen joint. The smooth white surface of the joint, the hyaline cartilage, can become thin, worn, and rough.
