Ischemia means insufficient blood supply to an organ or tissue. Cardiac ischemia occurs when a coronary artery is partially or completely obstructed, such as due to atherosclerosis. This reduces blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium).

Intestinal ischemia and infarction is the death of part of the intestine after its blood supply is cut off.
