Definition:
Amyloidosis is a type of disease in which an abnormal protein deposits in various tissues. These protein deposits damage the tissues and interfere with the function of the involved organ.

Familial or hereditary amyloidosis is the only inherited form of the disease. It occurs in members of most ethnic groups, and each family has a distinctive pattern of symptoms and organ involvement.
