Comedones
Definition:
Comedones are small, flesh-colored, white, or dark bumps that give skin a rough texture. The bumps are found at the opening of a sebaceous follicle (pore). See acne.

Comedonal acne
Comedones are blackheads and whiteheads, which are associated with increased oil production on the nose, forehead, and chin (T-zone). This form of acne often develops in preteens and during the early teenage years.

Comedone extraction. The comedo is removed from the pore with a special tool.
Chemical peels. Glycolic acid is applied to peel off the top layer of skin to reduce scarring.

A comedo, the primary sign of acne, consists of a dilated (widened) hair follicle filled with keratin squamae (skin debris), bacteria, and sebum (oil).
An open comedo has a wide opening to the skin and is capped with a blackened mass of skin debris.
