Adenoviruses are a group of
viruses that typically cause
respiratory illnesses such as a
common cold,
conjunctivitis (an
infection in the
eye),
croup,
bronchitis,
bronchiolitis (
inflammation of the lower
airways), or
pneumonia.

Adenoviruses were
first identified in 1953 from infected
tonsils and
adenoids. The
viruses can cause
respiratory or
gastrointestinal infections that are usually mild.
