The New MagNA Pure Compact System

The smart solution for quick and fully automated low-throughput nucleic acid purification!

The fast, flexible and reliable isolation of pure nucleic acids from various sample materials is crucial for sensitive molecular analysis (e.g., PCR, RT-PCR, arrays). The new MagNA Pure Compact System was developed for the fully automated isolation of DNA, RNA, or viral nucleic acids from mammalian blood, serum/plasma, culture cells, and other sample materials in research applications. The technology is based on the proven magneticbead isolation technique already in use with the MagNA Pure LC Instrument.

Fully Automated and Ready to Use

The system consists of a fully automated benchtop instrument and ready-to-use nucleic acid isolation kits. It is designed for 1 8 purifications that are processed in 22 35 minutes, depending on the selected protocol. The instrument has an integrated computer operated by a touch screen and a bar-code scanner. It includes full sample tracking with bar codes, and clot and tip detection. The instrument setup for the run is supported by the software and has minimal handson time: the reagents are prefilled in foil-sealed cartridges, and all the consumables needed are ready to use. One Reagent Cartridge contains all the reagents for one purification and the Tip Tray contains the corresponding Reaction Tips and a Piercing Tool (Figure 1).

Prefi lled reagents

Reagents for nucleic acid isolation based on the proven MagNA Pure LC magnetic bead isolation technology are filled in sealed cartridges. Forget about mix up or contamination of reagents.

Preassembled disposables
Reaction Tips and a Piercing Tool to penetrate the cartridge foil are provided in a special tip tray that is fast and easily set on the instruments stage. Thus, the correct tip amount is always available.

Software-guided set up
An obvious workflow for setup is implemented in the software and is operated by a touch screen and a bar-code scanner.

Safe documentation
The data entered and the isolation run information are stored and saved for a clear data management. The provided bar-code scanner facilitates data entry and supports sample identification.

Sample Tracking by Bar Code

After entering the cartridge bar code, the cartridges are inserted into the Cartridge Rack. With the bar-code information, the system guides the user to a default of suitable protocols; sample volumes, elution volumes, and sample material can be selected (Figure 2). The Tip Trays are inserted into the stage, as shown on the screen. The samples are pipetted into the Sample Tubes (provided), the tubes are set into the Tube Rack and into the instrument. The sample name can be entered via bar code or by typing. The bar code of the Elution Tubes (provided) is entered, and the Elution Rack containing the tubes is inserted into the instrument. After controlling all entry fields and closing the door cover, the run is started. Once the run is finished, the Result screen displays the run documentation, which can be saved, printed out, or routed via LAN.

Two kits for the newly developed MagNA Pure Compact System, together with a large variety of protocols, provide a previously unknown flexibility regarding sample type, sample and elution volume, and target nucleic acid (Table 1). Furthermore, an internal control that is automatically integrated into the process can be used. The ready-to-use reagent kits contain prefilled reagent cartridges and all the disposables necessary.
All nucleic acid isolation steps are performed automatically by the MagNA Pure Compact Instrument, based on the proven magnetic-bead technology as established with the MagNA Pure LC Instrument (Figure 1).
