Successful stabilization of gene expression profiles

rification. Whatever the storage temperature of the cells, intact RNA with high RIN values can be purified (Table 1).

Animal tissues
The traditional method of stabilizing RNA in animal tissues requires the use of liquid nitrogen or dry ice to freeze samples. A convenient alternative method is provided by RNAlater RNA Stabilization Reagent, which diffuses rapidly into samples at room temperature to immediately stabilize RNA. The reagent is also available in RNAlater TissueProtect Tubes for collection, stabilization, transport, and storage of tissues, and as part of RNeasy Protect Kits for stabilization and purification of RNA.

Bacteria
Bacteria often require vigorous methods for disruption and homogenization. During these processes, RNA degradation can occur. RNeasy Protect Bacteria Kits provide RNA stabilization while bacteria are still in culture. This allows sufficient time for disruption and homogenization during RNA purification with the same kits.

Human blood
A standardized method is essential for diagnostic laboratories that collect blood samples from multiple locations for RNA purification and analysis. This is provided by the PAXgene Blood RNA System, which is designed for in vitro diagnostic use and comprises PAXgene Blood RNA Tubes for blood collection and stabilization and the PAXgene Blood RNA Kit for RNA purification.
