Advantages of Roche Applied Science amplification products

The Polymerase Chain Reaction invented by Kary Mullis in 1983 drastically changed the course of modern life science research by opening an enormous variety of new opportunities to study and understand the crucial role of nucleic acids in living organisms. Roche Applied Science recognized early-on the importance of this new technology and the necessity to have a thermostable enzyme available allowing the scientific community to exploit the Polymerase Chain Reaction. Since then, Roche Applied Science has strived to continuously perfect the Polymerase Chain Reaction.   • 1990: Introduction of Taq DNA Polymerase

  • 1995: Introduction of the PCR Elisa Technology the first system enabling the non-radioactive detection of PCR products in a microplate format

  • 1995: Introduction of the Expand product family the first blend of thermostable enzymes allowing the amplification of amplicons up to 10 kb

  • 1996: Introduction of the Titan product family until today the most sensitive system for detecting rare messages

  • 1997: Introduction of a ultrapure PCR Grade Nucleotides based upon a new manufacturing process developed at Roche Applied Science

  • 1998: Introduction of the C. therm product family the most robust system to amplify mRNA templates with complex secondary structures

  • 1998: Introduction of the GC RICH PCR System another blend of enzymes powering the amplification of GC RICH templates or templates with high repetitive sequences that could not be amplified with "conventional" polymerases or additives

  • 1998: Introduction of the LightCycler the first system allowing the real-time on-line monitoring of an amplification reaction

  • 1999 and 2000: Introduction of various reagents supporting the use of the LightCycler System for a wide variety of applications

  • 2000: Introduction of FastStart Taq DNA Polymerase - the next-generation PCR system for hot start applications

  • 2002: Introduction of Expand High FidelityPLUS PCR System the first product of a family of next-generation PCR Blends
