LINCOLN, Neb., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- LI-COR announces its second webinar in its training and education series. The 30-minute seminar, Advances in In Vivo Imaging: Near Infrared Optical Imaging of Mice, will be held on August 27th at 11:00 a.m. CDT.

Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence offers dramatic benefits for in vivo imaging of small animals due to the increased depth of penetration and decreased autofluorescence and light scatter that occur at NIR wavelengths.

LI-COR, a leader in the field of NIR dyes, in vivooptical agents, and imaging instrumentation is introducing a new NIR in vivo imaging system. The Pearl(TM) Imager is optimized specifically for NIR optical imaging of mice. This unique, easy-to-use system provides exceptional signal-to-background ratios, and eliminates the need to alter raw data by methods such as spectral unmixing.

The webinar will discuss the NIR solution from LI-COR, including NIR dyes, optical agents and the Pearl Imager. Included in the presentation will be how these solutions are being used to monitor tumor growth noninvasively in living animals. Imaging of several LI-COR NIR fluorescent agents will be discussed, including epidermal growth factor (EGF), 2-deoxy D-glucose (2-DG), a bone mineralization marker, and a blood-pooling agent.

Following the presentation a panel of LI-COR imaging experts will be available for a Q&A session about NIR fluorescence and optical imaging.
