Data on WaferGen's SmartChip(TM) System to be Presented at 3rd Annual Rediscovering Biomarkers Conference

FREMONT, Calif., July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WaferGen Biosystems, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: WGBS), a leading developer of state-of-the-art genetic analysis systems, today announced that data on the company's SmartChip Real-Time PCR System will be presented at GTCbio's 3rd Annual Rediscovering Biomarkers Conference. The data will be presented by Kumar Kastury, Ph.D., WaferGen's vice president, research and technical operations, as part of an oral presentation on Friday, July 10. The conference is being held July 9-10 in San Diego, California.

Details of the oral presentation are as follows:

    Session:  New Discovery Technologies

    Time:     8:30 a.m. PDT on Friday, July 10

    Location: Sunset Room, The Dana Hotel on Mission Bay

    Summary:  A discussion offering an overview of the novel, high-throughput
              SmartChip Real-Time PCR System, as well as the SmartChip's
              analytical performance to date.   Furthermore, Dr. Kastury will
              present differential gene expression data between matched normal
              lung and tumor tissue samples that has been gathered using the
              SmartChip platform.


WaferGen's SmartChip system is currently the focus of ongoing gene expression research collaborations with scientific teams at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Texas, Southwestern. These programs are designed to leverage the SmartChip's innovative capabilities to identify and validate therapeutically-relevant gene expression biomarkers in areas including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), lung cancer and wound healing.
