WMIS Appoints Lisa Baird as Next Executive Director

Culver City, CA (PRWEB) May 20, 2013

The World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS) Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Lisa Baird as Executive Director. Baird will assume leadership of the WMIS on July 8, 2013. The WMIS vision is to encompass and promote preclinical and clinical multi-modal imaging applications to understand and effectively treat diseases in the developed and developing world. The World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS) was established in 2011 by integrating the Academy of Molecular Imaging and the Society for Molecular Imaging into a single streamlined society focused on advancing the field of molecular imaging. WMIS also sponsors the World Molecular Imaging Congress.

“We are proud to welcome Ms. Baird as WMIS’ new Executive Director,” said Zaver Buhjawalla, PhD. Search Committee Chair and WMIS President. “With her background in preclinical and clinical molecular imaging, WMIS is poised for a bright future.”

Baird comes to WMIS with extensive experience as a senior executive with global experience leading corporate and product initiatives in Fortune 500 and start-up environments. Her background includes building and managing marketing organizations that focus on the Oncology care path from discovery to patient management. She has a record of achievement in managing biomarker, surgical, imaging, therapy and medical device brands.

“Lisa Baird has everything we were looking for in an Executive Director,” said Anna Wu, PhD and WMIS President-elect. “We were particularly impressed with her emphasis on reaching out to all sectors of the global molecular imaging community. This is an exciting time for WMIS.”

Baird has a successful record of achievement as a Marketing Executive in the Molecular Imaging (PET/CT, MRI, preclinical PET/SPECT/CT) and Radiation Therapy (Intraoperative RT) industry, most recently as Director of Strategic Market Development at Siemens Healthcare.

Baird notes that her “ responsibility has been to map the needs of basic scientists and clinicians, develop strategies, and implement programs that drive awareness, utilization and adoption of medical technology - a particularly good fit with WMIS. I am tremendously excited to be a part of WMIS and its emphasis on cutting edge science.”

Ms. Baird will be working with the current Executive Director, Kim Pierce, for the next few months to ensure a smooth transition as Pierce retires.
