Valerie DeFillipo, Reproductive Health and Rights Expert, Joins Abt Associates

New Vice President Will lead Business Development and Communications for Company's International Line of Business

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates announced that Valerie DeFillipo, a reproductive health and rights expert, has joined the company as Vice President for Business Development and Communications for its International Line of Business. DeFillipo joins Abt Associates from the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in London, where for the last five years she served as Director of External Affairs.

"Valerie will play a significant role in helping us grow and diversify our international development portfolio," said Abt Associates Group Vice President for International Development, Tessie San Martin. "Her experience working with a variety of international donor governments and multi-lateral agencies, as well as her expertise in policy advocacy, communications and resource mobilization strengthens our business development capability. We are delighted to have her on our team."

While at IPPF DeFillipo was a lead organizer of the Countdown 2015 Global Roundtable; a founding board member of the Safe Abortion Action Fund, a global platform funded by multiple European donor governments to reduce maternal mortality in developing countries; and led IPPF's global rebranding effort.

Prior to joining IPPF, DeFillipo enjoyed a broad and varied career with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). While there she directed the Miami and Florida Keys affiliate, founded the international public policy arm of PPFA, and led international business development, managing family planning clinics and providing training and technical assistance support to family planning programs in the Balkans, Middle East, Asia and the Caribbean.
