The U.S. Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention is pleased to announce that Matthew Heyman joined the organization as vice president of external affairs and strategic integration on December 1, 2008.

Rockville, Md. (Vocus) December 1, 2008 -- The U.S. Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention is pleased to announce that Matthew Heyman joined the organization as vice president of external affairs and strategic integration on December 1, 2008.

In this role, Mr. Heyman will be responsible for developing and implementing external affairs strategies for USP that support its mission of improving health through public standards and related programs that help ensure the quality, safety and benefit of medicines and foods. He will manage outreach to USP's many external constituencies, which include members of the USP Convention, government agencies, international organizations, other standards-setting groups, health care practitioners, news media and the public. Mr. Heyman will oversee USP's government relations, public relations/corporate communications, marketing communications and member and professional relations functions in this newly created position. He will be responsible for creating integrated outreach programs that align with and promote USP's priorities.

Mr. Heyman has more than 30 years of leadership experience in science and technology policy and program management, communications, public affairs and government and business relations. He most recently served as chief of staff at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), directing and overseeing the strategic planning, evaluation and external affairs activities of an agency that works to improve
