Of the many qualifications that distinguish Dr. Huang from most other LASIK eye surgeons, his extensive research, teaching and inventions stand out. He has served as an investigator for 2 FDA studies concerning LASIK and other refractive surgery procedures and as the principal investigator in 4 National Institute of Health research grants. The University of Southern California has entrusted Dr. Huang to serve in several capacities. He is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Biomedical Engineering at Keck Medical School, holds the Manger Chair of Corneal Laser Surgery and serves as the Medical Director of the Doheny Laser Vision Center. He is also an attending physician for cornea service at the Doheny Eye Institute. Dr. Huang is the inventor of 9 patents with an additional 6 patents-pending. During the course of obtaining his PhD, Dr. Huang co-invented optical coherence tomography (OCT), a high-resolution cross-sectional imaging technology that is now indispensable in the diagnosis of eye diseases. His PhD research also included development of femtosecond lasers, which are now widely used in corneal and refractive surgery procedures such as LASIK and corneal transplantation. Dr. Huang is one of a very few doctors in the world with deep understanding of laser eye surgery from both a clinical and engineering perspective, and has the expertise to help people with corneal diseases who are seeking to improve their vision.
Dr. Huang has also published 2 textbooks, 13 textbook chapters, and over 60 articles for major peer-reviewed eye journals. In addition, he has given hundreds of presentations and
