During the course of obtaining his PhD, Dr. Huang co-invented optical coherence tomography (OCT), a high-resolution cross-sectional imaging technology that is now indispensable in the diagnosis of eye diseases. His PhD research also included development of femtosecond lasers, which are now widely used in corneal and refractive surgery procedures such as LASIK and corneal transplantation. Dr. Huang is one of a very few doctors in the world with deep understanding of laser eye surgery from both a clinical and engineering perspective, and has the expertise to help people with corneal diseases who are seeking to improve their vision.
