the eye. He has presented over 110 lectures on his research at major eye meetings in addition to numerous lectures at local and regional meetings. Dr. Mathers is credited with over 160 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and abstracts and over 16 text book chapters and books. He is also trusted by major professional eye journals including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Experimental Eye Research, Investigational Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, and Cornea, to review scientific articles of his peers. In addition to his career in ophthalmology, Dr. Mathers is the founder of the Genefac Corporation, a start-up molecular genetics company which focuses on research and development of personalized medicine.

During his 25 year career in refractive eye surgery, Dr. Mathers has performed over 5,000 LASIK and eye surgery procedures. He has performed over 3,000 corneal transplant surgeries making him one of the most experienced surgeons for this procedure on the West Coast. Dr. Mathers has the expert knowledge to help patients get the best eye care available when it comes to improving their eyesight through vision correction surgery.

A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Mathers is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology who conferred him with an Honor Award, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Research to Prevent Blindness, The Cornea Society (formerly the Castroviejo Society), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists (CLAO), where he has served as President. Locally, Dr. Mathers is an active member of the Oregon Association of Ophthalmology and the Washington State Academy of Ophthalmology.
