Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) November 15, 2013
More than 650 health care professionals are expected to attend the 10th Anniversary Society for Melanoma Research (SMR) Congress to learn about cutting edge research and advances in clinical care for melanoma. SMR, an international society of melanoma researchers and clinicians dedicated to finding better diagnostic and treatment options, will partner again with Prova Education, a medical education company with an expertise in cancer education, to host one of the largest annual symposia in the melanoma research community. The SMR 2013 Congress will return to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—where the first SMR Congress was held ten years ago—at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on November 17 through November 20, 2013.
“We are excited to host researchers and clinicians from around the world for the 10th year in a row. They are at the forefront in their field, and their information will be invaluable to all those working to diagnose and treat melanoma,” said Meenhard Herlyn, DVM, the Wistar Institute and one of The Congress organizers. “We are delighted that Prova Education will support us again this year to spread awareness and educate other clinicians on the exciting, new research shared at this congress.”
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 75,000 people will be diagnosed with melanoma in the United States in 2013 and the cancer will claim close to 9,500 people with melanoma this year. “Through the education opportunities at the 2013 SMR Congress, we hope to extend the lives of people with melanoma. We are developing newer and better treatment options,” said Boris C. Bastian, MD, President of SMR and Professor of Cancer Biology at the University of California, San Francisco. “This Congress will address the emergent targeted and immunotherapies that have the potential to supplant existing chemotherapy treatments.”
“Prova Education is excited to support this important event for the second year in a row,” said Alana Brody, Vice President of Oncology Education Development at Prova Education. “We understand oncology, and we want to help groups like SMR provide a world-wide audience of medical professionals with the latest information on melanoma research.” Like last year, Prova Education plans to utilize on-demand, online, and on-air resources—such as ReachMD Radio, a radio broadcast station with a medical-education focus—to reach clinicians from around the globe with updates from the SMR 2013 Congress.
