The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse Adds Life Sciences Veterans to Executive Program

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), the organization providing capital investments and customized company formation and business growth programs to the region's life sciences enterprises, announced that two nationally recognized executives have joined the PLSG as Executives in Residence (EIR).

Joining the PLSG as EIRs are Dave Mawhinney and Stephen A. Bollinger.

Mr. Mawhinney possesses a vast background in marketing, product development, operations and entrepreneurial ventures including four healthcare IT start-ups. In addition to his executive management experience in those start-ups; Premier Health Exchange, Hawk Medical Supply Corp., and IndustryNet Corporation, he worked for the venture capital firm PNC Technology Investors and Bayer Corporation. Mr. Mawhinney holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.

Mr. Bollinger brings extensive experience with medical device companies where he applied his background in marketing, product management and operations. In addition to his senior management experience with these companies, he also worked for the venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners where he held the position of Executive-in-Residence, helping to build companies and identify investments in the healthcare segment of that firm. Mr. Bollinger holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University.

"Our Executive Program has responded to the life sciences community's demand; providing executive talent to help form companies; subject matter experts to guide companies; executives to run companies; and program managers and directors to help companies grow," said John W. Manzetti, PLSG's President and Chief Executive Officer.

Since inception, 30 life sciences experts have participated in the PLSG Executive Program. Seven of those executives remain active in the PLSG Executive Program and twenty remain in western Pennsylvania's life sciences community -- twelve as CEOs and eight as C-Suite and Executive Team members.

"The addition of these two accomplished professionals builds on the credibility of the Executive Program and the investment interest that the PLSG portfolio has received at the national venture capital level," added Jim Jordan, PLSG's Vice President & Chief Investment Officer. "Our national reputation for attracting world-class life sciences talent will help insure the continued growth of the region's economic base and life sciences sector from concept to commercialization.(TM)"
