The Convergence of Art, Science and Beer
Date:6/22/2012

San Diego, California (PRWEB) June 22, 2012

Two things that both atheists and the devoutly religious can agree upon are that God created beer and that beer is good. (What? Yeah, we know. But we’re talking about beer here.) Yonder Biology believes that the yeasts used to make beer are often overlooked -- the forgotten heroes of beer. In homage, Yonder is employing its expertise in DNA analysis, design and beer drinking to create artistic representations of the yeasts used in brewing various styles beer.

In May 2012, Yonder Biology showcased its beer inspired DNA art work at Green Flash Brewery in San Diego with 'The DNA of Beer' exhibition. And this month (June 2012) Yonder Biology was commissioned to provide yeast DNA portraits for the new White Labs tasting room. “At first they didn’t believe us when we told them it takes a keg of beer to extract enough yeast DNA for our process… and they were right.” said Andy Bass, co-founder of Yonder Biology. “Still we found a way to make it work and were able to visualize cool differences in the various yeast strains.”

Yonder is expanding the DNA profiling of yeasts to characterize some of Americas’ favorite craft beers. In collaboration with local breweries Yonder will continue to shed more light upon their single celled eukaryotic brethren, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (common beer yeast). And for good measure Yonder established a functioning beer tap on the wall in the company’s DNA Art Gallery. Yonder patrons can now view and taste the art.

The Yonder Biology DNA Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday 11am to 7pm by appointment. Private parties are welcomed.
