Cepheid is collaborating with Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) to come up with a menu of advanced molecular diagnostics to be performed on the GeneXpert system. Together, they aim to develop clinical oncology tests, mainly for breast and prostate cancer, the two most common cancers in the US. Many believe that Cepheid's expansion to the oncology arena will drive the company's growth, given its fast growing market. The company also plans to triple its production capacity in 2013. Cepheid now has a broad and expanding menu of tests that run on its GeneXpert systems, including infectious disease, healthcare associated infections (HAI), women's health, genetics and oncology.
