TCN e-Systems Offers Trial Sponsors Solutions for Creating In-House Center of Excellence in Patient Recruitment
Date:6/23/2008

wn that the enrollment period for clinical trials remains one of the most prolonged periods in the development cycle for new drugs, and presents a large opportunity for sponsors to reduce time to market for new medicines and medical devices.

"However, creating a centralized repository of patient recruitment data is only the first step," Cohen said. "All members of the study community need to know how to use it to optimize patient recruitment, and this requires well-planned, consistent training. When people understand the theory and practice behind recruitment, they can become strategists who can more deftly identify and apply the specific methods of intervention that will enhance recruitment."

To accomplish this additional goal, TCN e-Systems developed a companion training product, called QuickTrainer(SM). Made up of online training modules, QuickTrainer guides "students" through a stepped approach to learning recruitment essentials and applying new knowledge to current clinical projects. Each module has reading assignments, practical exercises, and feedback from expert patient recruitment advisors to reinforce learning.

QuickTrainer course content is partly drawn from BBK Worldwide's recently released book, Reinventing Patient Recruitment: Revolutionary Ideas for Clinical Trial Success, and a BBK patient recruitment advisor is assigned to each QuickTrainer participant to provide personalized feedback. The program's secure, permission-controlled environment allows access across geographic regions and time zones, offering convenience to study team professionals with busy travel schedules.

"Global study teams are taking on greater in-house responsibility for all aspects of recruitment, from study feasibility and site selection to patient generation and retention," Cohen said. "QuickTrainer teaches them how to put a recruitment lens on all of these processes."

The need for patient recruitment training is well-recognized throughout the
