Stenum Hospital Does its 600th American Disc Replacement Surgery
Date:10/24/2008

October, 2008, Stenum Hospital, Germany, just five years after Jim Rider, the first American patient to receive disc replacement at Stenum Hospital, has now surpassed the 600 American patient milestone.

Bremen, Germany (PRWEB) October 24, 2008 -- With the growing healthcare crisis in the US getting worse, and the knowledge that many treatments are just not available in the states, thousands of Americans are now heading to Germany, a worldwide technology leader, for breakthrough medical treatments. From Limb Transplants too Stem Cell Therapy, Germany is leading the way in the advancement of breakthrough medical procedures. One of these breakthroughs is Disc Replacement surgery.

Stenum Hospital, Germany, provides the most advanced Disc Replacement solutions and implants available worldwide. Their surgeons are among an elite group of the most experienced Disc Replacement surgeons in the world, and have dedicated their careers to the sub-specialty of Disc Replacement. See www.StenumHospital.com

Disc Replacement, developed in Germany over 20 years ago, is now the new gold standard, and has all but eliminated the tragedy of spinal fusion (except in the US, where this process has been slowed by regulation). In the US, some 125,000 times a year surgeons perform spinal fusion surgery. These surgeries have quadrupled in a decade, but there have been serious questions about how much the surgery actually helps patients.

Over the past years, disc replacement has been taken to another level, with improved implants (not yet available in the US) high risk revision surgeries have all but been eliminated, and disc replacement is now used to create multi-level solutions for both the lumbar and cervical spine. Even with fusion and adjacent to existing fusion!

In the US, due to regulatory restrictions and the limitations of approved products, many patients will be exposed to unnecessary risk, get fusion surgery, or continue to suffer needlessly. Some still think disc replacement is only a single level solution or is a new and unproven technology. This is far from the truth!

Tragically, patients with severe loss of disc space, previous surgeries, more than one level needed, and many other factors may be excluded from disc replacement surgery in error. Additionally, it is quite likely that single level procedures are often performed when multi-level indications exist, resulting in poor results and risky second surgeries.

Stenum Hospital is now using the breakthrough Spinal Kinetics M6 implant. This implant achieves the ultimate goal of replicating the healthy human disc. By providing shock absorption and graded variable motion resistance, the M6 works in concert with the remaining human discs, to provide the best possible outcome. This "Quality of Motion" is a major benefit not available in any other implant we have seen! The M6 implant is approved for use in Europe.
