South Florida Technology Alliance and BioFlorida Joint-Event Draws Big Names and Big Crowd

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- South Florida Technology Alliance (SFTA), the leading IT business forum in the region, launched an important joint event with the state's life sciences organization, BioFlorida. An audience of more than 125 gathered in Fort Lauderdale on August 27, to hear experts from Scripps Florida, University of Miami, Dyadic and ConsultADoctor discuss the convergence of bio science and information technology.

Presentations from Anthony Carvalloza, Director of IT Services for Scripps Research Institute (www.scripps.edu), Mark Emalfarb, CEO of Dyadic (www.dyadic.com), Dr. Robert Schwartz, Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health along with Dr. John Ryan, Research Director at the University of Miami (www.med.miami.edu), and Wolf Shlagman, CEO of ConsultADoctor (www.consultadr.com), showcased how technology has been used to advance their respective areas of life sciences and the future opportunities to continue collaboration.

Mel Rothberg, CEO of Advanced Processing & Imaging, Inc. (www.apimg.com) and Co-Chair of the Southeast Chapter of BioFlorida, shared insight to the state of the Biotech industry in South Florida. "The bioscience industry demands the management of vast quantities of information. Digitizing this massive amount of information enables life science professionals to store, analyze, search, and share content more efficiently." He further noted that the expanding South Florida bioscience industry currently employs 38,482 workers in the tri-county area with a gross revenue of over $3.6 billion
