Society of Biological Psychiatry and Elsevier Renew Publishing Agreement

LONDON, August 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Elsevier to continue publishing Biological Psychiatry

Elsevier, and the Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP) are pleased to announce a renewal of their publishing agreement. Under the agreement, Elsevier will continue to provide publishing services for the society's journal Biological Psychiatry. The SOBP and Elsevier have worked together continuously since 1983.

According to Scott L. Rauch, MD, President of the Society, "We are absolutely delighted at the prospect of this continuing the collaboration between Elsevier and SOBP. Biological Psychiatry embodies our mission and values by providing an outstanding vehicle for sharing the best of peer-reviewed psychiatric neuroscience research to reflect and help advance the field. We are grateful to our editorial team, to Elsevier, and to the engaged scientific community of authors, reviewers and readership that make this possible."

Biological Psychiatry is published twice a month and is the official journal of SOBP, whose purpose is to promote excellence in scientific research and education in fields that investigate the nature, causes, mechanisms and treatments of disorders of thought, emotion, or behavior. The journal has a 2011 Impact Factor of 8.283 and ranks 5 of 129 journals in the Psychiatry category and 16 of 243 journals in Neurosciences according to the Journal Citations Reports® published by Thomson Reuters.

As stated by John H. Krystal, MD, Editor-in-Chief of Biological Psychiatry, "Elsevier has been a wonderful partner in the preparation of the journal. This is an extremely exciting time in translational neuroscience and psychiatric therapeutics. I look forward to continuing our collaboration with Elsevier that enables us to publish some of the very best research and thoughtful reviews in the field."

As part of the agreement, a new 'digital edition' of Biological Psychiatry will be sent to subscribers later this year.

About the Society of Biological Psychiatry

The Society of Biological Psychiatry was founded in 1945 to encourage the study of the biological causes of and treatments for psychiatric disorders. To achieve its purpose, the Society creates venues for the exchange of scientific information that will foster the advancement of psychiatric neuroscience and therapeutics. To this end, the Society sponsors an annual meeting, maintains web-based resources, grants awards to distinguished clinical and basic researchers, and publishes the journal, Biological Psychiatry. The term "biological psychiatry" emphasizes the biological nature of behavior and its disorders and implies the use of the medical model; but in so doing, it encompasses other major elements of modern psychiatric medicine, including its humanitarian mission, psychological foundation, and socio-cultural orientation.
