Routine testing of food products is gaining prominence worldwide owing to increasing consumer awareness regarding health and growing demand for specialist diets in developed markets. Increased consumer preference for fresh, healthy and minimally processed foods, such as prepackaged salads and home meal replacements, presents enormous challenges for food companies to control food contamination. The increasing trend towards globalization, elimination of trade barriers, and the resulting improvement in international trade has increased the need for strict food safety testing regulations.

Pathogen Testing represents the largest market sector, driven by strict regulatory norms. As regulations and legislations for pathogen testing continue to be enforced, the transformation towards rapid screening procedures is picking up pace. Advancements such as multiplexing, which facilitates analysis of more than one pathogen at a time are further driving market growth. Increasing instances of product recalls and the need for continuous monitoring of production processes has compelled manufacturers to carry out pathogen testing and analysis from food processing plants and manufacturing facilities to corporate testing centers. This emerging trend is expected to contribute to significant growth in routine pathogen testing procedures. GMO testing is gradually gaining prominence in food safety testing.
