Rear Admiral, Kenneth Slaght Named to Governor's Military Council of California
Date:10/30/2015

Rear Admiral (Ret) Ken Slaght, co-chair and president of San Diego’s Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the region’s cyber economy, today announced his acceptance to the Governor’s Military Council for the state of California. The Governor’s Military Council aims to strengthen the national security operations in California and provide abundant opportunities to grow national security activities that benefit California’s economy and local and regional communities. Rear Admiral (Ret) Slaght recognizes the importance and need of state government leadership to maintain and grow the defense and national security mission, therefore accepting his invitation to join the council among sixteen fellow board members.

Slaght’s role on the Council will focus on strengthening the state of California as a location for growing cyber security activities, Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RMV) technologies and other new and emerging technology platforms. He, along with other Council Members, will be responsible for recognizing the dominant role of new technologies in the future of national security and military missions. Overall, it is a priority of the Governor’s Military Council to identify and pursue actions to expand cyber activities and grow and retain military in the state. Slaght’s military expertise with the United States Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and cyber security background adds great value to the Council as it broadens its plan for the Pacific growth and transition of California’s military.

“I believe California plays a critical role to national and defense security,” said Rear Admiral (Ret) Ken Slaght. “And of the focus of the Council recognizes the commercial side of the Department of Defense (DoD) and it’s the way of the future. I’m glad I have a foot in both sides of the equation in protecting our country for the future.”
