PacsDrive Announces Low Cost Medical Imaging Storage Service, Seeks to Alter Status Quo in Health Care IT
Date:12/1/2009

Enterprise level storage is now available to small and medium sized health care providers without breaking the bank.

(PRWEB) December 1, 2009 -- PacsDrive, LLC. (www.pacsdrive.com), a medical imaging software company, announced the release of a new DICOM compatible cloud storage service. The PacsDrive service enables small and medium sized health care providers to securely archive medical imaging in compliance with HIPAA regulations for a monthly fee. Setup for the service can be accomplished in minutes without the need for capital expenditure on additional hardware or costly setup fees.

“We wanted to build a service that would allow clinics to easily implement an enterprise level backup without the headache of expensive new hardware, phone trees and pushy sales reps, or lengthy and costly setup processes,” said PacsDrive’s founder, Donnie Millar.

Indeed, new customers can sign up on the PacsDrive website (www.pacsdrive.com) for a free 14-day trial, download the PacsDrive client software, and begin archiving in minutes.

The service is offered in tiered packages, from the smallest package allowing the storage of up to 10,000 studies for $99 per month to the largest package storing up to 250,000 studies for $899 per month. Competing services start at a minimum of $1 per study and require thousands of dollars in setup expenses.

“Offering an affordable DICOM storage solution does not mean we are leaving anything out. Security, reliability, and customer service are top priority,” Millar said.

PacsDrive employs encryption methods used by the military and banks to safe guard information. Additionally, data is replicated across multiple data centers in different geographic locations to ensure data safe keeping.

HIPAA regulations require health care providers to maintain backups of patient data. This is a challenge for many small and medium sized health care providers due to the large expense often associated with PACS and DICOM storage systems. The American College of Radiology estimates that 662 million medical imaging studies where performed in 2007, making the safe archiving of this data a daunting task for even large health care providers.

Because PacsDrive is based on the DICOM medical imaging standard, the service is compatible with virtually every digital imaging modality and PACS in use today. This makes it an ideal solution for orthopedists, obstetricians, family practice physicians, dentists, and even chiropractors looking to backup their imaging data.

About PacsDrive, LLC.

PacsDrive is looking to alter the face of health care IT by offering affordable enterprise level technology. The company believes that health care technology is often unnecessarily cost prohibitive, and they are seeking to bring simplified, high-quality, and low-cost alternatives to the marketplace.

The company was officially formed in March of 2009 and the service has been in a limited beta testing state since. Their team has spent over a year developing, testing, and refining the medical imaging storage service in preparation for launch during RSNA 2009.
