P&G Beauty & Grooming to present advancements in skin aging & stress sweat at AAD Meeting
Date:3/1/2013

ulation containing a complex of niacinamide, pal-KTTKS, an olive oil derivative and dill extract, compared to a controlled moisturizer, to assess the effects on the appearance of aging facial skin.

Study results indicated daily use of a cosmetic moisturizer containing niacinamide, Pal-KTTKS, an olive oil derivative and dill extract improved the appearance of uneven facial skin texture. Furthermore, the addition of dill extract to the complex boosted skin elasticity and firmness. These results suggest that daily use of moisturizer formulations containing ingredients related to skin energy can lead to an improved appearance of aging skin.

Impact of Oxidative Stress on Cellular Bioenergetics in Older Aged Fibroblasts: Ability of Niacinamide to Prevent and Restore Metabolic Pathway Efficiency and Energy Production (P7041)

The exposure of skin to environmental factors such as UV rays triggers numerous biological processes including oxidative stress and inflammation. These stressors can lead to a breakdown of natural cellular processes, impacting the integrity of skin tissue. As a result of oxidative stress, skin cells lose their ability to produce and consume energy (also known as cellular bioenergetics), which leads to reduced levels of cellular energy molecules (ATP and NAD+). P&G scientists have determined that by reducing the negative effects of oxidative stress, skin may be protected from microdamage events that can lead to visible photoaging of skin.

For the first time, in the current study, P&G Beauty & Grooming scientists discovered niacinamide's (vitamin B3) ability to help prevent and reverse damage to cellular metabolism, which is the total of all the biochemical reactions taking place within a skin cell. Through the application of advanced cellular bioenergetics technologies, findings demonstrated that in vitro skin cells under oxidative stress conditions experience a significant decrease in ATP, which leads to reduced
