Opus Environmental Introduces Innovative Food Waste Elimination Equipment to U.S. Food Industry
Date:5/1/2009

Opus Environmental brings a new technology to the food service industry which the company says eliminates food waste at the point of generation, and saves users money.

West Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) May 1, 2009 -- Opus Environmental (Opus) will begin manufacturing equipment that removes food waste from food-service operations. The end result, say company officials, will not only save equipment users money, but also allow them to operate in an environmentally friendly manner.

Opus has entered into a licensing agreement with Shinyo Industries of Japan, whereby Opus has exclusive manufacturing and distribution rights to a technology -- called the Enviro-Pure system -- which eliminates food waste from food-service operations as well as from grocery stores. Opus believes this new, groundbreaking technology resolves a current problem within the food-service industry.

According to a 2007 study released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, food waste, by weight, is the third heaviest item which goes into landfills and takes up 30 percent of landfill space. The rotting food in landfills emits methane gas as the food decomposes. Studies have shown that methane is 30 times more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide as a ‘greenhouse gas.’ Decomposing food also attracts harmful vermin and disease-spreading insects.

“The Enviro-Pure system eliminates the need to collect and transport wastes from the kitchen to the loading dock. Trash and recycling containers stay cleaner. Food is placed into a sealed system which prevents access by vermin and insects,” said Ty Eden, Opus director of public relations. “The contin
