One of Nation's Oldest Blood Services Providers Turns to Sysmex America
Date:10/22/2007

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Blood Systems intends to purchase up to 23 Sysmex XE-2100D(TM) Automated Hematology Analyzers for the organization's 21 component production/quality control laboratories across the United States, said Blood Systems Vice President for Manufacturing Systems Dennis Harpool. Quality control procedures on prepared components and donor eligibility testing will be performed using the Sysmex XE-2100D to help ensure that components deliver the expected therapeutic benefit, said Harpool. Today's announcement comes during the national meeting of AABB, formerly the American Association of Blood Banks.

The Sysmex XE-2100D Automated Hematology Analyzer rapidly and accurately measures parameters such as hemoglobin, hematocrit (direct) and platelet count. It has the extended linearity capabilities required for the concentrated cell preparations that make up component therapy.

The blood centers division of Blood Systems, made up of United Blood Services and Blood Centers of the Pacific, provides blood, blood components and special services to patients in more than 500 hospitals in 18 states.

"Our blood centers need automated hematology analyzers that are reliable and can produce accurate measurements rapidly. We have found these assets in the Sysmex XE-2100D hematology analyzers and believe they will contribute to the operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our blood center laboratories," said Harpool.

Blood Systems is licensed by the US Food and Drug Administration and its blood centers hold current certifications for the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) and are accredited by AABB.

"While our highly reliable Sysmex XE-2100D will be critical to Blood Systems' work, we believe an equally important value that Sysmex brings to Blood Systems is our focus, communications and responsiveness to the business needs of the blood centers in general and to Blood Systems and its blood centers in part
