Obama Advisor Joins Connecticut and International Scientists at New Haven Stem Cell Symposium

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- More than a dozen internationally renowned speakers, including a key bioethics advisor on the Obama transition team, will be coming to New Haven, CT to present at StemCONN 09, the international stem cell research symposium taking place March 23-24, 2009.

The roster includes scientists from UConn's Stem Cell Core Laboratory, which recently announced creation of two new human embryonic stem cell lines that will be made available to researchers. (View more on new stem cell lines -- http://www.curenet.org/curenews/0901stemlines/ .)

Scientists from Connecticut's other research universities -- Yale University and Wesleyan University -- will also present results from their work in Connecticut laboratories.

Internationally known stem cell researchers from Harvard Stem Cell Institute, the New York Neural Stem Cell Institute, the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University and the University of Rochester round out the symposium.

The March 23 schedule includes workshops on emerging ethical issues, and on the path stem cells will take from the research lab to the clinic, as well as sessions for scientists.

The second full day March 24 is a scientific symposium devoted to the latest in stem cell research science.
