Bei den Shire BRAVE Awards handelt es sich um ein internationales Programm, das von Shire ins Leben gerufen wurde, um die Entschlossenheit und das Engagement einzelner Pflegekräfte zu würdigen. Im Rahmen der BRAVE Awards von Shire wird unter einer Pflegekraft jemand verstanden, der einen oder mehrere andere Menschen regelmäßig und langfristig pflegt. Bei der Pflegekraft darf es sich nicht um eine berufliche Pflegekraft handeln und sie darf keine offizielle Bezahlung für ihren Einsatz als Pflegekraft erhalten. Bei der Pflegekraft kann es sich um eine(n) Verwandte(n), Nachbar/in oder Freund/in handeln, der/die regelmäßig seine/ihre Zeit, Unterstützung und Mitgefühl dafür aufbringt, einem oder mehreren anderen Menschen, der/die sich (teilweise oder ganz) aus Gesundheitsgründen, wegen einer Verletzung oder wegen anderer, ihn/sie schwächender Umstände nicht selbst pflegen kann/können, zu helfen. Nominierungen für die 2013 BRAVE Awards werden bis zum 30. Juni 2013 angenommen und die Gewinner der Auszeichnung werden im November 2013 bekanntgegeben.
