New Scandinavian collaboration boosts nanotech development
Date:10/26/2007

The nano centres of the universities in the resund Region University of Copenhagen, Technical University of Denmark and Lund University together with MC2 at Chalmers University of Technology and the Imgeo Institute in Gothenburg join forces to build up a network for co-operation within nanotechnology.

Nanotechnology the growth industry of the future

Used efficiently, knowledge on nanotechnology will have an immense industrial impact. More than 50 billion SEK are invested globally in research and development each year, and the market for nanotech applications is expected to be about 1,000 billion USD at the year 2015.

Common strategic initiative

The partners will intensify the collaboration across resund/Kattegat by a common effort to create a network that boosts the development of nanotech research, education and commercialisation.

This new collaboration will strengthen our competitiveness and really bring us to the top of the world. Having these strong participants joining forces, we will be able to use the enormous potential of Scandinavia in terms of commercialising nanotechnology says Daniel Kronmann, Project Manager of Nano resund, a partner working for enabling the collaboration.

South West Scandinavia among the strongest clusters

In an international comparison, this consortium is one of the five strongest nanotech clusters in the EU and among the ten best in the world. This initiative will consolidate and improve South West Scandinavias position to be among the best in the world.
