Microban Signs Exclusive Agreement with Sharp Electronics to Launch Calculators with New Microban(R) 3G Silver(TM) Antimicrobial Technology
Date:12/10/2009

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Microban International, Ltd., the global leader in built-in antimicrobial product protection, has partnered with Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America, a division of Sharp Electronics, to incorporate it's third generation silver-based antimicrobial technology into Sharp's new printing calculators. Infused into the calculator keys during manufacture, Microban® antimicrobial protection inhibits the growth of damaging bacteria on the keys.

This exclusive agreement is a first for a calculator manufacturer in North America and ensures that all printing calculators will have Microban technology built into key touch points. Microban protection lasts the lifetime of the calculator and works continuously to fight the growth of microbes, such as stain and odor causing bacteria, keeping the keys cleaner for longer, while providing users with added peace of mind.

"Now more than ever, users have to be conscious about the cleanliness of the tools and instruments they come in contact with during the work day," said David Meyers, President and CEO of Microban International. "Plastic key protectors and overlays can make calculators and other products cumbersome to use and inhibit user accuracy. We were able to work directly with Sharp to infuse our new 3G Silver antimicrobial technology into the keys, ensuring the highest level of protection without compromising the ease-of-use that Sharp customers have come to expect. The end result is an innovative antimicrobial solution that is totally transparent to the end-user and, most importantly, added cleanliness protection for Sharp products."

Shipping now in the EL Series, Sharp's printing calculators will be the first of many product lines to exclusively feature Microban technology. Consumers can find Sharp calculator products with Microban protection at Office Depot as well as local Sharp distributors.
