Miami’s Preferred Cord Blood Laboratory, GeneCell International, Partakes in North Shore Medical Center and Hialeah Hospital’s OB/GYN Symposium
Date:9/20/2013

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) September 20, 2013

The OB/GYN Symposium will be focused on the areas of cancer and genetic screening, management of cervical dysplasia, fetal neural protection, and other related topics in the field of OB/GYN. The symposium is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, located at 4400 N.W. 87th Avenue, Miami, FL 33178.

“We believe in offering the best support to the medical community, this will ensure doctors will provide parents with the best and most up-to-date information so they are able to make an informed decision on preserving their child’s stems cells,” said GeneCell’s Physician’s Relation’s Manager, Lisa Reyes Munoz.

GeneCell International specializes in the collection, transport, processing and cryogenic storage of adult stem cells from various sources including; umbilical cord blood, cord tissue segment (known as Wharton’s Jelly), dental pulp (teeth) and adipose tissue (fat) that can later be used to treat a variety of diseases. The laboratory is also involved in scientific research and development with a range of stem cells from various adult tissues. The facility is governed and inspected by the FDA, Florida Department of Health and several other regulating bodies to ensure the safety of these cellular therapies.

“For me, the opportunity for meeting and discussing the scientific aspect of these life-saving cells with the physicians is rewarding," added GeneCell’s Laboratory Manager, Priscilla Pages.

Cord blood is rich in stem cells and there are fewer risks for the recipient’s immune system to reject the cells, because certain immune cells found in the cord blood are not mature. Cord blood can be used to treat the child from whom the blood was collected as well as some first-degree relatives who are a close genetic match, such as family members. Additionally, patients can get the treatment in about three weeks - as opposed to six to eight for bone marrow from an adult donor.

“Informing all attending physicians on the importance of cord blood banking and the differences between these non-controversial cells is imperative,” added GeneCell’s Director of Operations, Jose Cirino

GeneCell International presently conducts monthly cord blood workshops at its Miami, West Kendall, facility in order to further educate and update the community on the advancements of stem cells, both hematopoietic (cord) and mesenchymal (cord tissue, dental and adipose).

Umbilical cord blood preservation is a process by which blood is collected from the umbilical cord of a newborn baby and is stored cryogenically in a specially-designated bank. According to the National Marrow Donor Program, cord blood contains cells that can be transfused to a patient to treat various diseases, including lymphoma and leukemia. Currently, there are approximately 80 diseases and the list of illnesses utilizing cord blood stem cells, as a treatment, continues to grow.

GeneCell International, LLC is a trusted provider in the collection, processing and storage of adult stem cells from various sources which have the potential to treat a variety of diseases and disorders. Headquartered in Miami, Florida and a local office in Central Florida and international offices or laboratories in Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras, India, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela, GeneCell operates state of the art laboratories and storage facilities for the cord blood and dental pulp of thousands of clients.
