Miami’s Preferred Cord Blood Laboratory, GeneCell International, Partakes in North Shore Medical Center and Hialeah Hospital’s OB/GYN Symposium
Date:9/20/2013

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) September 20, 2013

The OB/GYN Symposium will be focused on the areas of cancer and genetic screening, management of cervical dysplasia, fetal neural protection, and other related topics in the field of OB/GYN. The symposium is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, located at 4400 N.W. 87th Avenue, Miami, FL 33178.

“We believe in offering the best support to the medical community, this will ensure doctors will provide parents with the best and most up-to-date information so they are able to make an informed decision on preserving their child’s stems cells,” said GeneCell’s Physician’s Relation’s Manager, Lisa Reyes Munoz.

GeneCell International specializes in the collection, transport, processing and cryogenic storage of adult stem cells from various sources including; umbilical cord blood, cord tissue segment (known as Wharton’s Jelly), dental pulp (teeth) and adipose tissue (fat) that can later be used to treat a variety of diseases. The laboratory is also involved in scientific research and development with a range of stem cells from various adult tissues. The facility is governed and inspected by the FDA, Florida Department of Health and several other regulating bodies to ensure the safety of these cellular therapies.

“For me, the opportunity for meeting and discussing the scientific aspect of these life-saving cells with the physicians is rewarding," added GeneCell’s Laboratory Manager, Priscilla Pages.

Cord blood is rich in stem cells and there are fewer risks for the recipient’s immune system to reject the cells, because certain immune cells found in the cord blood are not mature. Cord blood can be used to treat the child from whom the blood was collected as well as some first-degree relatives who are a close genetic match, such as family members. Additionally, patients can get the treatment in
