MassDevice, an online journal of the medical devices industry, is pleased to announce their 2013 MassDevice Big 100 East garnered record-breaking attendance. The event, which offered an inside look at some of the companies and devices that have made headlines over the past two years, drew nearly 300 top executives together to talk leadership strategies, challenges and the future of the industry.
At the Waltham, Mass. event -- one of two signature events the publication holds annually on both coasts -- a number of the medical devices industry's best and brightest gathered for a night of big ideas and industry insights.
“We’re thrilled with the record turnout for our 3rd annual MassDevice Big 100 East because it is validation that executives want quality, original content and insight” said MassDevice.com publisher Brian Johnson. “Our panel, which included some of the most distinguished leaders in the med-tech space, provided unparalleled insight into some of the most pressing issues facing the industry and executives in the corner office. Our sponsors and attendees provided tremendous feedback and insight into the content of the program during our breakout sessions.”
At the centerpiece interview, the conversation turned to the future of M&A, while panelists Cathy Burzik (formerly of Kinetic Concepts) and Karen Licitra of Johnson & Johnson's global media solutions group offered advice about increasing agility and general management skills to tomorrow's CEOs and executives and offered insight into the challenges and opportunities facing women in the corner office.
A group of CEOs also took the stage in an open discussion about game-changing technologies and the rapid pace of industry change. CEOs Jeff Burbank of NxStage, Philipp Lang of ConforMIS, Richard Packer of Zoll and Amar Sawhney of Ocular Therapeutix each offered ideas from the view in the corner office.
Additionally, event sponsors Aptitude, KHJ, Porzio Life Sciences and Greenberg Traurig hosted break-out sessions on headline-grabbing topics affecting the medtech industry:
Medical device top dogs at this year's Big 100 agreed that it's no longer enough to come out with a device that's simply better than the last. Companies have to bring truly game-changing product to the market, backed up by a savvy management team to support the product and tackle new hurdles on the horizon.
