Martek's life'sDHA(TM) Now Featured in Two New Flavors of Rachel's(R) Wickedly Delicious Yogurt from WhiteWave Foods
Date:2/13/2008

COLUMBIA, Md., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Martek Biosciences (Nasdaq: MATK) announced today that life'sDHA(TM), its patented, vegetarian form of DHA omega-3 for brain, eye and heart health, is now available in two new flavors of Rachel's(R) Wickedly Delicious Yogurt. The new flavors, Pink Grapefruit Lychee and Marionberry Guava, join 10 existing flavors of Rachel's Yogurt that also feature life'sDHA. The entire Rachel's line is available at natural food stores nationwide.

"We are pleased to see the Rachel's brand expand its line with two new flavors of yogurt featuring Martek's life'sDHA," said Joe Buron, vice president of sales and marketing for Martek. "Rachel's with life'sDHA is ideal for consumers who want to incorporate a trusted, vegetarian source of DHA into their diets for brain, eye and heart health benefits."

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) omega-3 is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid that serves as a primary building block for the brain and the eyes and supports brain, eye and cardiovascular health throughout life. There is a large and growing body of scientific evidence demonstrating that people of all ages, from infants to aging adults, benefit from an adequate supply of DHA omega-3 in their diets. Scientific reviews have noted the importance of DHA omega-3 in proper brain and eye development and function, and there are large clinical studies underway to evaluate its role in decreasing the prevalence of certain neurological disorders. Yet despite its importance, Americans have among the lowest dietary intakes of DHA omega-3 in the world.

Fish are often thought to be the only source of DHA omega-3. However, life'sDHA offers a trusted, vegetarian form of DHA that contains no oceanic pollutants and toxins. Fish are good sources of DHA because of the DHA-rich microalgae in their food chain; life'sDHA is derived from microalgae and produced in an FDA-inspected facility from start to finish using a sustainable source that does not deplete ocean resources. life'sDHA is found in numerous foods, beverage and supplements for people of all ages. It is also the only source of DHA used in U.S. infant formula and is available in more than 90 percent of the formulas on the U.S. market

Rachel's U.S. made its debut in summer 2007 and builds on the success of Rachel's U.K. -- a thriving dairy brand known for its stylish pairing of authentic, traditional dairy quality and contemporary great taste. Rachel's offers two tempting lines of premium low fat yogurt in 12 extraordinary blends. Headquartered in Colorado, Rachel's is part of the WhiteWave Foods family of premium natural and organic brands.
